Healthcare
Healthcare, planned first.
A great retirement plan starts with a great healthcare plan. Here's how we approach it.
How Philippine healthcare works
The Philippines has a two-tier system: a public network (PhilHealth) and a robust private sector with internationally-trained physicians. Most U.S. retirees rely primarily on private hospitals in major cities.
Top-tier hospitals we consider
- Metro Manila: St. Luke's Medical Center (BGC / Quezon City), Makati Medical Center, The Medical City.
- Cebu: Chong Hua Hospital, Cebu Doctors' University Hospital, UCMed.
- Davao: Southern Philippines Medical Center, Davao Doctors Hospital.
- Iloilo & Dumaguete: Strong regional facilities with growing specialty coverage.
Insurance options
U.S. Medicare generally does not cover care abroad. Most of our retirees combine:
- An international health insurance policy (Cigna Global, GeoBlue, IMG, etc.).
- A local supplemental or PhilHealth membership.
- A cash reserve for out-of-pocket private care, which remains affordable by U.S. standards.
What we do — and don't do
We help you understand the landscape, match you to cities based on your medical priorities, and connect you with vetted hospitals and licensed advisors. We do not provide medical advice, sell insurance, or make diagnostic recommendations.
